Hadassah Teams Up with Jewish Earth Alliance
The organizations coordinated to support the Jewish community’s conservation efforts.
Spring is here. It’s a great time to admire all the beautiful, blooming trees in Atlanta.
Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, addresses climate change through environmental advocacy, education, and initiatives rooted in Jewish values, focusing on sustainability, environmental justice and Israel’s green efforts. Hadassah joined with the Jewish Earth Alliance to support the Jewish community’s efforts to protect our planet. Members of the Georgia Jewish Earth Alliance met with representatives of Georgia’s two U.S. senators to urge them join in these efforts.
The Jewish Earth Alliance (JEA) is an all-volunteer grassroots network of 50 organizations across the country, consisting of people who deeply believe that protecting the Earth is integral to Jewish identity, faith, and practice. The JEA believes that climate change is a moral challenge that demands an urgent response. JEA is mobilizing Jews to stand up and raise a loud, collective voice for policies that they feel reflect their values.
Bill Witherspoon, chair of the board of JEA in Georgia, explains, “Each year The Jewish Earth Alliance enables Jews throughout the country to raise our voices and work with our members of Congress to take action to protect our planet. This year, we were privileged meet with staff members from both of our Georgia United States senators; Sen. Jon Ossoff and Sen. Raphael Warnock. We asked them to take strong and consistent action to protect all people and heal our precious Earth.”
Simone Wilker, advocacy chair for Hadassah Greater Atlanta and the Hadassah Southeastern Region, states, “At Hadassah, we believe that each of us has the power to heal our world. For us, that means bringing healing — in every sense of the word — where it’s needed most, in the United States, Israel, and around the globe.”
Every day, Hadassah members are speaking out in multiple ways — from sending messages to meeting face-to-face with elected officials — locally and on the Hill. Hadassah’s founder, Henrietta Szold, saw suffering and took action, bringing emergency health care to mothers and their infants in pre-state Israel. Szold’s passion is in Hadassah’s DNA and continues to drive the organization to make a better world for all.
Hadassah and the Jewish Earth Alliance are committed to empowering their members and supporters to take action in a variety ways. These two organizations are a dynamic force for change.
