Kimmel to Host Series of Free Storytimes
Author Barbara Kimmel brings her interactive board book, “Hanukkah Hippity-Hop,” to life.
For the third year, local author Barbara Kimmel and her husband, Hank, will bring Chanukah storytimes to children and families throughout Atlanta. This year, they have 10 free public events scheduled (so far) at bookstores, libraries, and other community venues, in addition to private programs at Jewish preschools and synagogues.
“What is especially meaningful to me is bringing Chanukah into spaces beyond the Jewish community. At some of our public events, children and families are experiencing Chanukah for the first time. We sing, move, play games, make crafts, and share the joy of Jewish holiday traditions,” Kimmel said.
“At a time when antisemitism is so visible, I believe there is something meaningful about putting joyful Jewish life out in the open and inviting others in,” said Kimmel.
The program features Kimmel’s interactive board book, “Hanukkah Hippity-Hop,” which was named to the Association of Jewish Libraries’ Holiday Highlights list.
“Children march like Maccabees, spin like dreidels, and shake like jelly in a doughnut. We also sing, move, play our Velcro ‘Five Little Latkes’ game, and make a Hanukkah craft,” Kimmel said.
