‘Mary Poppins’ Takes Flight at AJA
Atlanta Jewish Academy middle-schoolers bring a spoonful of sugar to the Sandy Springs stage.
The Atlanta Jewish Academy Middle School pulled off a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious production of “Mary Poppins” for its spring musical, with performances Wednesday, March 7, Thursday, March 8, and Sunday, March 11.
Seventh-grader Sara Goldberg brought the beloved nanny to life through classic songs such as “Jolly Holiday,” “Step in Time” and “Chim Chim Cher-ee” alongside seventh-grader Jordan Joel as Bert, fifth-grader Ari Gordon as Michael Banks and seventh-grader Eva Beresin as Jane Banks. (Eighth-grader Shiraz Agichtein played Mary Poppins in two of the four shows.)
The Bird Lady, played by sixth-grader Mollie Glazer, stole the show with her rendition of “Feed the Birds (Tuppence a Bag).”
Past spring middle school musicals at AJA include “The Wizard of Oz,” “Annie,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “My Son Pinocchio.”
