Obituary: Burton Wittenberg

Burton Wittenberg, known fondly to many as “Popi,” was born in Philadelphia, Penn., in 1937. Burt was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served during peacetime. He studied horticulture in college and had a 60-plus year career in sales. He was known for being a friendly and bold man to do business with. Burt was a big supporter of the state of Israel, spending much time vacationing and volunteering in Israel. He was known to buy lunch or snacks for any IDF soldier he encountered. Burt was a Zionist to his core.

In 1987, when Burt moved to Atlanta, he and his wife became involved in the Orthodox community in Toco Hills. Burt grew a deep admiration for Torah study and strengthened his connection with G-d.

Burt is survived by his wife, Doreen; two of his brothers, Al and Bob Wittenberg; his three children, Rachel, David, and Josh Wittenberg; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
