David Hendelberg, 82, passed away on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by members of his loving family at the time of his death.

David was born in Baltimore, Md., on Oct. 4, 1943. He attended the University of Maryland, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and government. He subsequently went on to earn his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law and an advanced degree in accounting.

After completing his education, he went to work for the Internal Revenue Service as a field agent. He held multiple positions in the field of accounting and ultimately landed at Jones and Kolb in 1978. He had a long, successful career as a partner in his firm. He was a CPA, tax advisor, and financial planner until his retirement in 2023.

David loved the field of accounting, and he was more than happy to “talk shop” with anyone. However, that love paled in comparison to his love for his family. David met his wife, Linda, in April of 1969, and quickly decided that they wanted to build a life together. They were married in November of that year, and ultimately made their way to Atlanta, Ga., in 1971. David and Linda welcomed their first child, Amy, in 1973, and their son, Jerry, in 1975.

When not working or following the stock market, David loved spending time with his family. He was a huge movie buff and was always keen to watch a film with Linda, his children and/or his three grandchildren, Samantha, Ethan and Isabella. David’s grandchildren loved their Poppie and were lucky to see him all the time while growing up. He also loved watching live and televised sports, building Lego, attending plays at various theaters, and enjoying a good meal.

After retirement, David enjoyed continuing his Jewish education through classes at the Atlanta JCC. David had many friends from different stages of life, and he and Linda socialized and traveled with them regularly.

David’s graveside service was held at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Ga., at 12 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hadassah of Greater Atlanta, the Lisa F. Brill Institute for Jewish Learning at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Dressler’s Jewish Funeral Care, 770-451-4999.
