Obituary: Marvin Jay Zagoria

Marvin Jay Zagoria was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 8, 1945, to George and Florence Zagoria. He would later move to Atlanta, Ga., where he attended Oglethorpe University and Emory Law School.

Marvin traveled extensively as a young adult. He loved sports, was a diehard Braves fan, and an avid golfer for much of his life, sharing this passion with his family. He was also a brilliant coach, leading his children’s sports teams to countless championships. Family vacations to the beach were some of his happiest memories.

After the loss of their daughter Lauren, Marvin and ex-wife, Janis, created Lauren’s Run to honor her memory, which continues to this day and has raised more than $5 million for pediatric cancer research.

Marvin is survived by his sons, Daniel (Alyssa) and David (Cyndee), his daughters, Haley (Casey) and Kristen, and his beloved seven grandchildren.
A funeral was held at Arlington Memorial Cemetery at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6.
