Michael “Mickey” Solomon, 86, of Roswell, Ga., formerly of Atlanta, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Oct. 10, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend.
Born in Keene, N.H., to Lilian and Abraham Solomon, Mickey grew up in Atlanta with his brother, Murray, and sister, Jennifer. Even as a young man, Mickey showed tremendous courage and compassion. At just 17 years old, he entered a burning home and helped save an elderly couple.
Mickey attended Grady High School, where he played football under legendary coach Erk Russell. He later attended the University of Georgia, where he earned a degree in business and was a member of Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity. It was also at the University of Georgia that Mickey met Sarah, beginning a love story and partnership that would last more than six decades.
Mickey and Sarah married in 1962 and began building their life and family together. During their years in Brunswick, Ga., Mickey was actively involved in the Jewish community, serving as president of Temple Beth Tefilloh and as a leader of the synagogue’s youth group. Brunswick was also where Mickey owned a barbeque restaurant and a movie theater, reflecting the entrepreneurial spirit that remained with him throughout his life.
In 1973, Mickey and Sarah settled in Dunwoody, Ga., where they raised their three children, Franci, Marc, and Brian. Mickey and Sarah were not only husband and wife, but also best friends who truly enjoyed doing everything together — from everyday life at home to traveling.
Mickey spent his entire career in the insurance industry. After turning 65, he began helping friends navigate Medicare. What started simply as a way to help others eventually grew into a business, and Mickey founded Solomon Consultants. He continued working in the insurance business throughout his life.
Family was at the center of Mickey’s life. He loved cooking for everyone, especially his famous barbeque chicken, made with a secret barbeque sauce dating back to his days as the owner of a barbeque restaurant in Brunswick. Mickey also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in what he grew. He loved traveling, especially going on cruises with Sarah and creating memories together along the way. He was also a devoted Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan. Mickey was especially proud of his eight grandchildren and treasured the time he spent with them.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Lilian and Abraham Solomon, and his brother, Murray Solomon. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; his children, Franci (Don) King, Marc (Melissa) Solomon, and Brian (Helayne) Solomon; his eight grandchildren, Ally, Megan, Andrew, Caroline (Max), Jack, Annie (Mitchell), Will, and Brady; his sister, Jennifer (Stephen) Walters; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Mickey will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his compassion for others, his strong work ethic, his love of cooking, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life. Most of all, he will be remembered for the love and example he gave to his family — a legacy that will continue through his children and grandchildren.
The family requests that donations in Mickey’s memory be made to Breakthrough T1D (Type 1 Diabetes).
The funeral was held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Ga. Arrangements by Dressler’s Jewish Funeral Care, 770-451-4999.
