Good news for Atlanta Shwarma and Falafel aficionados.

The Pita Palace will once again be certified Kosher by the Atlanta Kashruth Commission starting Sunday, November 23. The news comes one month after the celebrated Mediterranean eatery lost its AKC supervision. A call to the AKC confirmed this news and a post on the Pita Palace Facebook page today at 10:30 a.m. read as follows:

Located in the Briarcliff La Vista Shopping Center at 1658 Lavista Rd, The Pita Palace’s loss of supervision was originally posted on the AKC Yahoo Group October 14. On November 7, the AKC released another statement which read:

“Pita Palace had discontinued AKC certification. They are currently working to get reinstated. The AKC will notify the community when Pita Palace’s status changes.”

A phone call by the AJT to the Pita Palace was not answered this afternoon. They are reportedly open for business today.

[EDIT: 11/21/14 @11:25 a.m.] Rabbi Reuven Stein commented on this news today. He told the AJT:

“Pita Palace discontinued running as a Kosher establishment about a month ago, they cleaned the store this week and they will be re-certified this Sunday. A lot of people wanted it Kosher again and that may have influenced their decision to become re-certified.”
