Prudential Honors Galloway Senior, Riverwood Junior
Max Rubenstein and Julia Stahlman both have launched nonprofit organizations as teenagers.
Game Givers founder Max Rubenstein has been named Georgia’s top volunteer among high-schoolers in the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.
Rubenstein, 17, a senior at the Galloway School, launched the nonprofit organization in 2015 to provide video games for sick children to play at hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses.
His Prudential recognition has earned him $1,000, an engraved silver medallion and a four-day trip in late April to Washington, where he could be named one of the nation’s 10 top youth volunteers. Also making the trip from Georgia will be Angelica Krubeck, 11, of Cumming, the honoree among middle-schoolers.
The Spirit of Community Awards honor young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism.
Among the six other Georgia finalists was Riverwood International Charter School junior Julia Stahlman, 17, who received an engraved bronze medal from Prudential’s Leilani Plendl on Feb. 26.
Stahlman founded Art for Art, a nonprofit organization that supports children living in poverty in Africa. Art for Art showcases the children’s artwork in the United States and raises money for education programs. She also created a student-led initiative to promote safe drinking water and raise awareness about a common contaminant.
