Planer to Kick Off Book Tour this Fall

Billy Planer has released a new book, “Conversations That Matter: How Americans Can Talk about Tough Issues and Still Be United,” and is set to embark on a book tour in the fall.

“I feel a new wind blowing — that familiar, undeniable spark today — the exact same feeling I had when I left youth work decades ago to build Etgar 36,” he wrote in a Facebook post. “After 23 incredible years of running the Etgar 36 summer and Civil Rights trips, it is time to expand our mission. I am thrilled to share (literally) the next major chapter of my journey!”

Planer shared that he has spent the last few years channeling ultimate lessons from his life’s work into this book.

“Conversations That Matter: How Americans Can Talk about Tough Issues and Still Be United” is officially being published and released on Oct. 23.

“We all feel the tension in our country right now. Heated debates around politics, current events, the Middle East, and identity have fractured our communities, friendships, and families,” Planer shared on Facebook. “This book is the direct antidote to that division. It is a practical, hopeful guide to help you become comfortable having uncomfortable conversations. It shows you how to talk to people who don’t look, think, pray, love, or vote like you — without dismissing one another.

When I first signed with my literary agent, he warned me that authors usually dread the exhaustion of a cross-country book tour. I just smiled. Hitting the road is my absolute dream come true! And yes, we are absolutely still running our Civil Rights trips too!”

Planer is currently seeking venues to add to the book tour, specifically independent bookstores, synagogues and churches, community centers, and colleges and universities. Planer said he plans to make stops in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Lancaster, Penn., and Cherry Hill, N.J. Plans also include future tour legs continuing throughout next year.
