It’s All About the Gifts

Diversity, schmiversity … Chanukah is all about the gifts!

The mythical lore behind the Maccabees and the oil that lasted eight nights is enchanting, but for me, the best part about Chanukah is gift giving and being able to share joy with those who we care about the most.

I love gifting presents and think deeply about the person I am gifting and what things they may enjoy the most. I enjoy finding the right gift for the right person, ideally selecting something I know they will appreciate and value.

As a kid, I loved getting presents for eight nights. However, since my parents were both teachers, by the sixth or seventh night, I was likely to receive pencils or a book. But that first night … ooh … that first night was always the best. The first night was for Nintendo consoles, brand new video games, baseball gloves … all the best gifts.

The story about the oil is inspiring … but nothing beats gifting presents to those we love. Latkes are pretty good, too.
