Israel Celebration Set for Sunday at Lake Lanier
The festivities are part of the Israeli American Council's commemorations across the country.
Thursday’s rain canceled one communal celebration of Yom HaAtzmaut, but you have another chance Sunday, May 7, for Israeli Independence Day festivities.
The Israeli American Council’s IAC Beyachad (Together) organization, in collaboration with the Israel Scouts, is holding a festival celebrating Israel from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lake Lanier’s Mary Alice Park at the end of Mary Alice Park Road in Cumming.
The Scouts will be there early in the morning to continue a tradition of building a raft for the celebration. Activities for all ages during the festival will include sailing the raft, arts and crafts, and a scavenger hunt, and there will be popcorn and slushies. People are welcome to bring their own food and drinks, as well as their own lakeside games.
Admission is free.
The celebration comes three days after severe weather forced the Marcus Jewish Community Center to cancel its Yom HaAtzmaut celebration at Dunwoody’s Food Truck Thursday at Liane Levetan Park at Brook Run.
The Lake Lanier festival is among IAC celebrations taking place across the nation from Sunday through June 11 to help more than 50,000 pro-Israel Americans mark the state’s 69th birthday and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Six-Day War.
