Letter to the Editor: Larry Benuck
The AJT welcomes your letters. If you would like your letter to be published, please write 200 words or less, and send it to editor@atljewishtimes.com.
While Judy Woodruff [“PBS Anchor Sees Threat to Press Freedom,” Dec. 15] is sincere about her thinking, that “social media is not a journalistic entity,” her assumption is misconceived. Perhaps technically, social media is not journalistic; the perception is that it is and therefore is taken as such. In this case, perception is reality and that creates the problem. Search engine giants do act as purveyors of information and therefore should be held accountable for the content of such information. Without being accountable, we, the general public, cannot separate fact from fiction and worse: intentional misrepresentation. Our world is moving so fast that we need guidelines and boundaries on communication mechanisms.
