Rabbi Erin Boxt, the assistant rabbi at Temple Kol Emeth, is leaving the East Cobb congregation at the end of June after five years to become the senior rabbi at Temple Beth El in Knoxville, Tenn.

“Who would have thought this DAWG would ever find himself in the middle of VOLS country — but G-d does work in mysterious ways!” Rabbi Boxt said in an email announcement to Kol Emeth members Wednesday, March 8.

Kol Emeth is launching a search to hire a replacement for Rabbi Boxt — and a potential successor to longtime spiritual leader Rabbi Steven Lebow — to start in the summer of 2018.

Meanwhile, Temple Emanu-El’s search for an assistant rabbi to join Rabbi Spike Anderson has resulted in the hiring of two rabbis instead of one: married couple Max and Rachael Miller, who are due to be ordained in May at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati.

Max Miller grew up at Temple Emanu-El and graduated from the Davis Academy and the Weber School. He met Rachael Klein, who grew up in Kansas, in their first year of rabbinic school, and they married in August 2015.

In announcing their hiring Friday, March 10, Rabbi Anderson wrote that although the Sandy Springs congregation had budgeted for one assistant rabbi, “a small group of congregants came forward and agreed to underwrite the additional costs, allowing us to make the two rabbi hire in a fiscally responsible manner.”
