United Hatzalah USA was the big winner of a raffle held in Israel after three Hebrew Order of David International lodges in Atlanta and Houston donated their winnings back to the country’s largest volunteer EMS organization, according to a press release. The winnings, which will help provide personal protective equipment kits to first responders, supplements funds raised by the raffle ticket sales, the release stated.

Mario Oves, president emeritus of HOD’s Governing Lodge North America recently presented the check in Washington, D.C., to Gabriel Friedson, USA director of United Hatzalah.

“There is a serious need for assistance in combatting COVID-19 in Israel as cases continue to rise,” Oves said in the release. “Our members are stepping up to answer the call, as we’ve always done. HOD lodges and governing lodges worldwide have previously donated an emergency all-terrain-vehicle, numerous ‘ambucycles,’ and other lifesaving medical equipment that has already saved countless lives.”

He added, “With COVID-19 cases affecting every aspect of Israeli life like it has in the rest of the world, HOD has decided to once again step forward and aid the people of Israel by providing first responders with the necessary PPE kits needed to continue with their mission of saving lives of all Israelis.”

United Hatzalah provides all its services free to anyone in Israel, regardless of religion, race or background.

The Hebrew Order of David is a fraternal men’s organization that is the successor organization to a Jewish brotherhood originally established in England in 1896. It acts for the benefit of its members and has been active with numerous Jewish organizations, locally and in Israel. HOD has lodges in Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, San Diego, Toronto, London, Israel, and South Africa.
