Israeli Musician, Ester Rada to Take Main Stage at Atlanta Jazz Festival

Photo Courtesy: Dean AvisarIsraeli musician Ester Rada will take the main stage at this year’s Atlanta Jazz Festival on Saturday, May 24. The performance is part of a series of shows for the musician across the Southeast United States, with additional stops in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
Ester Rada’s cross-cultural sound is a reflection of her Israeli-born, Ethiopian heritage. Raised in a highly religious Jewish family in one of the roughest neighborhoods of Israel, this upbringing gave Rada the drive to change her circumstances and fulfill her dream of creating music. Critics describe her cross-genre sound as “gracefully combining Ethio-Jazz, funk, soul and R&B, with mixed undertones of black grooves.”
Ester Rada has toured the US, Canada, and Europe, including a performance at the 2013 Glastonbury Festival. She also performed as the opening act for Alicia Keys’ concert in Israel. Rada credits Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin as her musical influences, alongside Eryka Badu, Lauryn Hill and Jill Scott.
