Bette Dwoskin Kurtzman, 91, passed away Oct. 1, 2026, in Atlanta, Ga., her lifelong home.

Born to Oscar and Freda Dwoskin, Bette was the oldest of three children and grew up in a large, close-knit Atlanta family. She graduated from Emory University and met Lewis “Lew” Kurtzman at the Progressive Club. They married on Aug. 6, 1956, raised three children, and shared 64 years of marriage until Lew’s death in 2020.

Exceptionally bright, Bette was known for her sharp wit and wonderfully sarcastic sense of humor. She was a voracious reader and a talented needle pointer and knitter. She loved playing Canasta, Bridge, and Mah Jong with friends. Bette and Lew traveled extensively, sharing a love of art, collecting, and shopping.

Family was at the center of Bette’s life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who rarely missed a dance recital or ball game. Her grandchildren will especially remember sleepovers that often included a trip to Target followed by ice cream.

Bette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lew. She is survived by her children, Amy, Ricky, and Laney; sister and brother-in-law, Toby and Tom Rosing; brother and sister-in-law, Myron and Laura Lee Dwoskin; grandchildren, Alix Jampol (Michael O’Connell), Jordan Jampol (Megan Fitzpatrick), Kyatt Byrd, Sydney Byrd, and Heath Byrd; and great-grandchildren, Judah and Oren O’Connell.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bette’s memory to Temple Sinai of Atlanta, Hadassah, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
