Beverly Blass Schapiro, born Aug. 19, 1938, passed away on July 6, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with the rare neurodegenerative diseases Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP)/Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD). Throughout those years, her daughter and longtime caregiver, Amy, was by her side, advocating for her and caring for her. Beverly faced these conditions with a strength and determination that will never be forgotten, yet it was her forever beauty, the sparkle in her eyes, and her warm smile that will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Beverly was the daughter of the late Simon Blass and Evelyn Pfeffer Blass. Raised in Atlanta, Ga., she graduated from Grady High School and attended the University of Alabama, where she and some of her closest Southern friends met their future husbands from New York, and where they later settled in New Rochelle, N.Y.
Beverly dedicated her life to helping others, which was her true joy. For many years, she worked in the Patient Relations Department at Westchester Medical Center, a place she loved so deeply that she often referred to it as “my hospital.” Even after she retired, she continued to volunteer there. Everyone who knew Beverly knew she was only a phone call away and would do absolutely anything for the people she loved. She was blessed with incredible friends throughout her entire life, from Atlanta to the University of Alabama to New York, and she shared special bonds with her cousins in Atlanta.
Above all, Beverly loved her girls. She found peace and joy in birds, ladybugs, and flowers, which filled and decorated her home. She truly enjoyed her life in New York, and heading into the city to see the opera or ballet was always a special treat. She also loved listening to Frank Sinatra, being outside in the sunshine, and spent many cherished afternoons at the ocean, watching the waves with her daughter, right up until the end.
Beverly was preceded in death by her brother, Joel, and her beloved daughter, Suzanne. She is survived by her daughter, Amy; granddaughter, Anna (Elias); great-grandson, Calvin; son-in-law, Alex; and her many cousins in Atlanta.
Deepest gratitude is expressed to the many dedicated caregivers who provided comfort and support throughout the years.
Memorial contributions may be made in Beverly’s memory to CurePSP (www.psp.org), whose mission is to increase awareness, educate, support those affected, and advance research toward a cure for these neurodegenerative diseases: Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD), and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).
