Miriam Marie Wasileski (Franco), 81, passed away on Jan. 30, 2026. Born in Oswego, N.Y., in a Jewish refugee camp after her parents fled Italy during World War II, she was the first in her immediate family to be born in the United States. Family lore tells that First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt visited the camp and presented Miriam with a gift as the first baby born there, an early symbol of hope, resilience, and new beginnings that would define her life.

Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Lidia Franco, and her sister, Rachel. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Wasileski; her children, Randy Wasileski (Kelly) and Emily Wasileski; her cherished granddaughter, Erin, who was the true joy of her life; her brother, David Franco (Pearline); as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.

A devoted and active member of her synagogue, Miriam found joy in her faith, her community, and the simple pleasures of gathering with loved ones. She especially enjoyed making burekas with friends and family, an expression of love she shared generously. Above all else, Miriam treasured her role as a grandmother, finding her greatest happiness in time spent with Erin.
