One hundred years ago my ancestors stood in awe as the sound of the shofar pierced their hearts and stirred their souls. They recited words that had been passed down to them by their ancestors, from generation to generation. They gave thanks for the blessings of family, community, health, and Torah. They offered praise to Source of All that brought this world into being and that sustains all life. They wept for the pain and injustice that they saw around them and rededicated themselves to taking up the Prophetic call to build a world of love and justice. So too may we do the same.
