Clear the dance floor for May 19 at Westin Atlanta Perimeter North for Congregation Etz Chaim’s gala tribute to Rabbi Shalom Lewis. Event co-chair Bonnie Negrin said, “Rabbi Shalom Lewis has been the spiritual leader at Congregation Etz Chaim for over 40 years. As he transitions to rabbi emeritus, it was the congregation’s desire to recognize his dedication to the members of our synagogue, the Atlanta Jewish community, and to our East Cobb neighborhood. Thus, the idea for a gala celebration, an evening to say a joyous thank you and show the rabbi what he has meant to each of us. The planning committee has had an overwhelming response to our ad journal/directory and we look forward to the festive evening.”

In addition to Negrin and her husband, Neil, the committee chairs for the gala celebration are Janis and Peter Greenfield, Ellen and Pip Spandorfer, and Linda and Michael Weinroth. Suzanne Rivchun is chairing the ad journal/ directory.

Bob Bachrach, synagogue past president and former executive director, will serve as emcee of the evening. There will be a seated dinner and dancing with a band. In addition, there will be greetings from U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson and several other speakers, including current Etz Chaim Rabbi Dan Dorsch, and remarks from Rabbi Lewis.

The man of honor said, “I am excited about the upcoming gala because it is a celebration of what was and what will be, how a successful shul can survey with pride its remarkable past and plan with confidence its great future. This event is not about me alone, but about a marvelous congregation that has created a loving, spiritual, committed community. It has been an honor and privilege to be the rabbi of Etz Chaim for these past 41 years.”

Tickets are available for $250 per person, which includes a 1/2 page greeting in the ad journal/ membership directory, or $500 per couple, including a full page in the book. For more information, contact 770-973-0137.
