Obituary: Alexander Abraham Rappaport

Alexander “Alex” Abraham Rappaport, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2026.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to parents, Philip and Beatrice Rappaport. After graduating Erasmus Hall High School, where he was a member of the Arista Honor Society, he received a pharmacy degree as well as a master of business administration from Long Island University. He then went on to receive a medical degree from the University of Bologna School of Medicine and Surgery in Italy.

He served as a commander and physician in the United States Navy, stationed in Norfolk, Va. He would later move to St. Petersburg, Fla., where he practiced as an ophthalmologist for 42 years and raised a family. In his retirement in Atlanta, Ga., he was an avid golfer, reader, and late-in-life bridge player.

Alex is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Jane Rappaport, his daughters, Kim Rappaport and Kara Dutta, son-in-law, Anand Dutta, and his two grandchildren, Roan and Riley Dutta.
