Wouldn’t it be great if all of us here in Israel could, as Ms. Kalman exhorts in her blog, suddenly see that life isn’t a zero-sum game?

And, as she adds, wouldn’t it also be great if we could quickly realize that Israel’s 70-plus-year conflict with the Palestinians isn’t an either/or proposition and that we should instead try to adopt an overarching shared goal?

Well, of course it would. But it isn’t likely to happen, given the Palestinians’ deep-seated resistance to recognizing the Jews’ right to a land that was promised by G-d to their forefather, Abraham, more than 3,000 years ago. Come to think of it, G-d promised the land to the descendants of Abraham, and not to the descendants of Arafat and Mahmoud Abbas.
