Rabbi Feldman Joins Clergy at Kemp’s Prayer Service

Beth Jacob’s spiritual leader offered prayer for sick, bereaved, first responders, caregivers, scientists, and government officials, among others.

Dave Schechter is a veteran journalist whose career includes writing and producing reports from Israel and elsewhere in the Middle East.

Rabbi Ilan Feldman of Congregation Beth Jacob spoke directly to the COVID-19 crisis during a Day of Prayer service hosted April 27 by Gov. Brian Kemp in the rotunda of the state capitol.

In thanking Gov. Kemp, Feldman recalled being a first grader and standing behind the desk of then-Gov. Carl Sanders during a visit to the capitol. Feldman was joined at the service by 14 Christian ministers and a Muslim imam.

Feldman’s prayer included the following:

“Lord, you gaze into the minds of all people and discern the chambers of the heart. You know our secrets, so I will say what you already know: We are desperate. Our economy is in shambles. Our technology gives us no cure. People we love are sick or dying. We don’t see a path clearly out of this. Even the most stubborn among us know we desperately need your help.

“And so we pray. May the healer of all flesh, who does wondrous deeds, protect the healthy and heal the sick. May the loving father comfort the bereaved. May our first responders and caregivers receive courage and strength from the heavenly first responder and caregiver. May those who seek a cure be given a portion of your wisdom. May the omnipresent remind those who are isolated that they are not alone. May we who are afraid find security in your hand. May our government officials be guided by the king of kings. May humanity come together in love, seeing in each other your divine image. May your love be upon us, as we have put our hope in you. For in your hand are the souls of the living and the dead and into your hand I entrust my spirit.”
