Rabbi David Spinrad is leaving The Temple to become the senior rabbi of Beth El Hebrew Congregation (https://www.bethelhebrew.org) in Alexandria, Va.

The Temple has announced the hiring of Sam Kaye to be its new assistant rabbi, starting July 1.

Rabbi Kaye, who is due to be ordained at the Cincinnati campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in June, will fill the opening created by the departure of Rabbi David Spinrad, who will be the senior rabbi at Beth El Hebrew Congregation in Alexandria, Va.

Rabbi Kaye might have an adjustment period for Atlanta weather: He’s from Denver and in January married a woman from Montreal, Taylor Baruchel, on the coldest day in that Canadian city’s history: minus-17 degrees.

He has served as a student rabbi in Toronto, Sioux Falls, S.D., Beckley, W.Va., Cincinnati, and Paducah, Ky.

According to The Temple’s announcement, he is an avid board-game player and an amateur oud player, loves thunderstorms, and considers his interest in Jewish mysticism to be a happy accident.
