True to its name, The Art of Touch combines an incredibly relaxing and therapeutic massage experience with a visit to an engaging and beautiful art gallery featuring collections from a diverse array of artists.

To say this writer left the space walking on a cloud would be an understatement. Any pain felt in the shoulders, neck, and right hip simply melted away. Under the expert hands of massage therapist, Ren, and knowledgeable tour guide, owner Spencer Rosen, the visit felt like the perfect getaway vacation without having to travel more than 25 minutes from home.

True to its name, massages at The Art of Touch correspond to concepts in art. For example, The Blank Canvas is a gentle massage designed to foster relaxation and general wellness, while providing an emotional reset. The Foundation is a deeper massage that includes deep tissue, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point, and a variety of other modalities. The Glaze offers lymphatic massage and, according to Rosen, has become increasingly popular among clients. The Form is available for expectant mothers following their first trimester. A couple’s massage and a special massage for oncology patients and cancer survivors round out the menu of offerings.

Spaces to relax abound at The Art of Touch — all filled with pieces of original art

The goal at The Art of Touch is to pair each client with a team of therapists best suited to their specific needs. All massages, regardless of style, are priced the same and designed for each client at the time of service. A variety of modalities may be used during a single session, and clients may add a “refinement” to their massage, which includes reflexology, hot stones, cupping, herbal relief oil or cream, a sound bath and aromatherapy, for an additional charge.

A walk through the large and airy space reveals balconies overlooking Midtown Atlanta, open spaces filled with sunlight, a blazing steam-generated fireplace and art from several artists. The pieces and artists represented rotate regularly throughout the year. Large treatment rooms are the standard here, and the client seating areas feel more like a friend’s chic living space than a business. Healthy snacks, fruit and drinks, ranging from water to wine, are also available.

“We believe each person’s experience here should nourish their mind, body and soul. We intentionally choose art that complements feelings of relaxation, serenity and rejuvenation,” stressed Rosen.

Current artists at the space include Jazzy Elise, Robert Truesdale, Tessa Lang, Adam Hall, Allison Rollins, Dawn Corner, Azareah York, Ester Lucia, and Amore Ayala. Styles range from glazed intricate paintings of still life forms to airy beach scenes. True to gallery form, all works of art are hung using museum-grade hardware with attention to appropriate lighting for each piece. Both established and up-and-coming artists are featured throughout the studio, and most pieces are available for sale. According to Rosen, many of the studio’s clients want to take home pieces of art to remember the feelings they experienced during their visit.

Rosen purchased The Art of Touch more than three years ago after a career in the hospitality and high-tech industries. He personally experienced the benefits of therapeutic massage and wanted others to feel the power of integrating massage into a health and recovery routine. In fact, Rosen mentioned that many referrals come from Metro Atlanta physicians and physical therapists.

Amore Ayala, a fashion designer and visual artist, in front of two of his paintings from the “Not Warhol” collection, located in the lobby.

“We want to help people get past whatever health issue or surgery they’ve had and onto the road to recovery. For clients seeking ongoing therapeutic work, we typically recommend 90-minute sessions for optimal results, with frequency ranging from weekly to monthly depending on individual needs,” said Rosen.

Rosen also indicated that the studio sees a number of guests coming in for relaxation and experiential visits, including couples, small groups and out-of-town visitors. The Art of Touch hosts a number of special occasions like bridal and baby showers and parties, all centered around shared massage experiences, In addition, Rosen indicated that the studio is in the process of expanding into more curated group experiences and private events, including buyouts for occasions like celebrations and team gatherings, all centered around shared massage experiences.

“We also plan to introduce a new membership program in addition to our current package rates. Lymphatic massage has become increasingly popular, and sports massage remains a favorite among our clients,” he added.
