We Limit Ourselves

Most of our limitations, I believe, are self-imposed. Our frames of mind can limit or liberate us.

Most of our limitations, I believe, are self-imposed. Our frames of mind can limit or liberate us. That is not to say that we have control over much in our lives, but we do have control over how we respond to the challenges that arise in all of our lives.

My favorite example of this is when I first became a runner. After running for just a few months, one day I actually ran eight miles. I recall saying to myself, “If you can run eight miles, you can run 26 miles!”

Obviously, there’s no logical connection between the two. Except, just a few months later, I ran the Atlanta marathon.

That leap of faith has served me well in life. When I’ve been faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, I’ve reminded myself that I ran a marathon. And if I could run a marathon, I could do anything!
