Building on the success of last year’s inaugural golf invitational, The Weber School ran it back this spring with the second annual golf tournament in support of its athletic department. On the morning of Monday, April 27, Weber held its golf invitational at Dunwoody Country Club in honor of Ron Kirschner, an esteemed leader of the Atlanta Jewish community who formerly served as president of The Epstein School and is currently a vice president at Weber.

This year, more than 25 four-player teams participated in an invitational that raised 20 percent more funds than last year’s first go-round. As Weber has developed very strong pole vaulters competing for state championships — both male and female — the chief beneficiary was the pole vault program, which purchased new pole vault landing pads for the pit.

“It was a very successful tournament,” shared Paul Ginburg, associate head of school and chief advancement officer at The Weber School, who was very thankful that the school’s tourney was sandwiched in between a pair of rainstorms. “This has developed into a very key and strategic event because it brings in individuals and institutions that are not affiliated with Weber and introduces them to a day of fun and also to the mission of The Weber School.”

Once again, Magnolia Golf, a third-party organization renowned for putting on well-run golf tournaments, handled many of the logistics, in conjunction with Gavin Cohen, event chair, and his wife, Thea, who did a masterful job of juggling many different responsibilities. While there were quite a few participants who don’t belong to the Weber community, seven alums took part in the festivities as well as parents of former students. Fittingly, the winning team was comprised of three Weber alumni (Josh Vibelefsky, Ben Grinzaid, Josh Kalish) and one former Weber parent. (Louis Kalish).

There are already plans for a third invitational next spring, however, a firm date has not been set yet.
