Atlanta Women Pay Tribute to Jews in Poland
Over 45 Atlanta women just returned from a Jewish trip to Poland.
More than 45 Atlanta women returned recently from a powerful trip to Poland with Jewish Women’s Connection of Atlanta. During that time, they volunteered at the Krakow JCC to make mishloach manot bags, Purim food gifts. JWC Atlanta’s inaugural Poland trip included visiting the sites of the Holocaust, as well as the cities of Krakow, Lublin and Warsaw. Though the focus of the group was learning and remembering, the women also paid tribute to the future by making the Purim gifts.
The women from Atlanta stopped by the JCC to learn about the important rebirth of Krakow’s Jewish community. Rabbi Avi Baumol, JCC director Jonathan Ornstein and Atlantan Ryan Kaplan, director of external relations, met with the group over coffee and tea and spoke about modern Jewish life in Poland.
“Today was a wild ride of ups and downs that I may never fully process,” said participant Allison Feldman. The group “talked late into the night” about the Holocaust, she said. “Horrors that will leave their mark on our souls. But we also witnessed joy and love and support and bravery.”
JWC Atlanta’s goal is to create and build “a spiritual community that connects women through friendship, learning and Jewish values, and transforms and impacts them, their families and the Atlanta Jewish community,” according to a press release. Its mission is: “Light a Jewish woman’s soul, inspire the family, community and the world.”
JWC Atlanta has impacted more 2,000 women across metro Atlanta “through online and in-person learning, weekend retreats, and weeklong trips to Israel and Poland,” according to the release.
